Still life paintings are very traditional and challenging subjects to tackle. Balancing light and colors in the composition well make or break a painting. I kept the focus on the vase of flowers by not adding any other objects to detract from it. The yellows and oranges along with the blue vase keeps every thing oil balance and in harmony.
If you look closely at the background you will see how the paint drips down the canvas. I did this intentionally to add texture and interest.
I call this "Mums For Mom" because it reminded me of my mom and here love for flowers.
NOTE; This painting, along with my entire inventory and art studio, was destroyed in the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023.
