Here is a different perspective of this beautiful tropical flower. I decided to paint the back side because of all the vanes and textures I saw. This painting is a companion piece to my Yellow Hibiscus painting. Both are painted on beveled canvases. Both have pedals and leaves spilling over the sides.
To get the composition for this painting I went out and photographed a lot of hibiscus flowers. Keeping in mind how I wanted the painting to look. Deciding on the dark green, almost black, background really helps the yellow flowers pop.
This painting is the "Best In Show" winner in the Lahaina Arts Association's 2018 Mahalo Show.

Darice Machel McGuire lived on the beautiful Island of Maui from 2012 until the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023, destroyed her art studio. She and her husband have relocated to Grass Valley, California. They purchased a commercial building to reestablish their art studios. McGuire's Hawaii and California landscape oil and acrylic paintings are gracing the homes and offices of collectors nationally and internationally. McGuire's choice of subject matter comes from her love of nature and all that surrounds her on a daily basis. She paints in large and small formats.
