Artist's Description
Hawaiian green sea turtles, or honu, are native to Hawaii. They are the largest hard-shelled sea turtle in the world, reaching lengths of four feet and weights over 300 pounds. Out of the seven types of sea turtle, the Hawaiian green sea turtle is the most common turtle in Hawaii.
The Honu is a symbol of good luck in the form of a guardian spirit, or Amakua. The Honu pattern is depicted in ancient petroglyphs as well as in modern graphic form. The honu has been an important Hawaiian symbol for as long as people have inhabited the Hawaiian islands.
I have a large series of Honu paintings. This is the newest addition.
NOTE; This painting, along with my entire inventory and art studio, was destroyed in the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023.
