Although these huge sea creatures are called ‘whale sharks’, they are not actually whales, but filter-feeding sharks, often referred to as "gentle giants". The whale shark is a slow-moving shark and the largest known extant fish species. Whale sharks are the third biggest creature in the ocean (after blue whales and fin whales), they're not aggressive and don't threaten humans. Their mouth can be 5 feet wide, with three rows of about 300 tiny teeth, they can't bite or chew. As filter feeders, they eat only plankton and the occasional fish. These creatures can live up to 150 years.
