Here in Lahaina Maui we call this view "The back of Front Street". This view is seen from the Library Park. This is where the Hauola Stone is. The stone was used by ancient Hawaiians as a healing place. There is a brass marker that directs you to the stone that is visible in the water. Kahuna (priests) of medicine used stones like this to help cure illnesses.
The old Lahaina Lighthouse is also a feature in this park, but not visible in this painting. The lighthouse was the first in all of Hawaii. Commissioned in 1840 by Kamehameha III, it was built to light the way for incoming whaling boats.
What you do see in this painting is the backs of a few shops, including Wylands Gallery and Honolua Cookies. The stretch of the seawall where sunset watchers like to hang out leads your eye to the famous Cheese Burger in Paradise restaurant.
NOTE; This painting, along with my entire inventory and art studio, was destroyed in the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023.

Darice Machel McGuire lived on the beautiful Island of Maui from 2012 until the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023, destroyed her art studio. She and her husband have relocated to Grass Valley, California. They purchased a commercial building to reestablish their art studios. McGuire's choice of subject matter comes from her love of nature and all that surrounds her on a daily basis. She paints in large and small formats. Three of the five galleries that represented her work were destroyed by the Lahaina fire. The two remaining galleries are Karen Lei's Gallery in Kahakuloa and Karen Lei's...
