Artist's Description
This little landscape is a scene somewhere in the Sierra Mountains. Patches of snow are still on the ground. The stream is full from the melting snow. Grass is beginning to grow. When I lived in Tahoe I often hiked the Desolation wilderness in the Spring. Winters made me feel claustrophobic and I couldn't wait to get out and stretch my legs. But Spring in the mountains comes late. Most the trails would still have deep snow patches causing a two or three mile hike to be an ordeal.
I painted this scene with acrylics on watercolor paper. It was a class demo. I was teaching how to get the different textures and colors on the rocks and make the transparent water look like it was moving.
