Artist's Description
DT Fleming is a beach on Maui's west side. This world-class beach is much less developed far less touristy than Ka’anapali Beach. Conditions can become dangerous during high surf with strong rip currents and powerful waves common. The beach is named for the man who introduced pineapple to West Maui; his legacy came to an end at the start of 2010 when the last commercial pineapple operations formally ceased in West Maui.
This beach is not far from where I live. It's definitely one of the prettiest beaches on the west side. My painting is just a tiny detail from the rocky left side of the beach. I was hoping for the more dramatic waves this beach is known for when I went to get reference photos for my "Dancing With Waves" series. As luck would have it, the ocean was quite calm. I painted it anyway.
NOTE; This painting, along with my entire inventory and art studio, was destroyed in the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023.
