The Wharf Cinema Center is located in Lahaina Maui, on Front Street, right across the street from the historic Banyan Tree. There are three levels of stores and restaurants that wrap around a court yard. This court yard has a beautiful
koi pond. I spent a great deal of time watching and photographing the koi one afternoon and was rewarded by these two beauties crossing each other. I snapped the camera on my iPhone just in time for this composition. It was a lucky shot. Everything about it excited me and I couldn't wait to paint it. Though wait I did, for it took six months before I made the time to paint it. The orange and dark blue squarish shapes are reflections of the overhead canopies. The fun part of this painting was creating the movement of the water. In my photo there was a third fish poking his head up between the tails of these two. I decided not to paint him in.

About Darice Machel McGuire

Darice Machel McGuire lived on the beautiful Island of Maui from 2012 until the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023, destroyed her art studio. She and her husband have relocated to Grass Valley, California. They purchased a commercial building to reestablish their art studios. McGuire's Hawaii and California landscape oil and acrylic paintings are gracing the homes and offices of collectors nationally and internationally. McGuire's choice of subject matter comes from her love of nature and all that surrounds her on a daily basis. She paints in large and small formats.
