Red Crested Cardinals are small pretty songbirds here on Maui. They have become my alarm clock because I am awoken each morning between 5:00 and 5:30 by their cheerful songs.
The red-crested cardinal is common in the lowlands of the main Hawaiian islands. Native to South America, it was introduced to the Hawaiian Islands around 1930. It is also known as Brazilian Cardinal. Red-crested cardinals can be seen in parks, lawns and open dry forests. They feed on seeds, insects, plant matter and fruits.
The background of this painting I did with acrylic pouring. It gives the paint a feel of motion as if tiny clouds are drifting by while this sweet bird rest upon the post.

Darice Machel McGuire lived on the beautiful Island of Maui from 2012 until the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023, destroyed her art studio. She and her husband have relocated to Grass Valley, California. They purchased a commercial building to reestablish their art studios. McGuire's Hawaii and California landscape oil and acrylic paintings are gracing the homes and offices of collectors nationally and internationally. McGuire's choice of subject matter comes from her love of nature and all that surrounds her on a daily basis. She paints in large and small formats.
