Description
I've added two pineapples to my "Maui Pineapple" collection here on my website. This series has many different looks and designs. Some are over the top, some very colorful and some are realistic, I began this series soon after moving to Maui in 2012. Much to my surprise, they sold almost as fast as I painted them. Who knew pineapples would be so popular? Not me.
I did a lot of research to find out why pineapples are so popular. As it turns out the pineapple is the international symbol of hospitality. Which started 100s of years ago with the explorers. Sea captains who sailed the oceans looking for new land found many tropical islands growing this strange, sweet fruit. They brought it back to their home ports. They would place a pineapple on their fence post to let their friends and neighbors know they were home, and welcomed them to come "talk story" (as we say here in Hawaii).
This painting has a textured background with the same three colors I used for the pineapple, green, brown and unbleached titanium. The combination of these colors give this painting an old fashion look.
