Banyan Tree
Hope is a tree in the center of Lahaina Town. Standing as a testament to the strength of the Maui community, the Banyan Tree will once again nurture us with her shade, as she has done for the past 150 years.
This is my hope to see the Banyan tree flourish as depicted in my painting.
The Banyan Tree in Lahaina holds a very special place in my heart. It sparks my imagination every time I see it. I can imagine a wonderful treehouse, much like the one in the old movie “Swiss Family Robinson”. Ever since seeing that movie as a child I’d Day dream about living in such a treehouse. However, I laugh every time I visit the tree at sunset. That’s when the birds come in to roost for the night. And I mean hundreds if not thousands of them. The noise is so loud. I won’t even mention the little droppings they so lovingly offer to all who stands under the branches. On second thought, a threehouse would not be a good idea. I’ll keep that childhood dream whe...

Darice Machel McGuire lived on the beautiful Island of Maui from 2012 until the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023, destroyed her art studio. She and her husband have relocated to Grass Valley, California. They purchased a commercial building to reestablish their art studios. McGuire's Hawaii and California landscape oil and acrylic paintings are gracing the homes and offices of collectors nationally and internationally. McGuire's choice of subject matter comes from her love of nature and all that surrounds her on a daily basis. She paints in large and small formats.
