My little gecko buddy hangs out with me on my lanai. Actually, there are about 4 geckos that hang out. All varying in age and size. The one here in this watercolor portrait is one of the adults. I believe it's female, but I'm no expert on that.
For the most part, these little creatures are quite skittish. I've learned to sit very still and make slow movements in order not to scare them. Sometimes I have to wait a while, very patiently waiting for them to come around so I can take photos of them. I used one of those photos as my reference for this painting. Asking a gecko to sit and pose was out of the question.

About Darice Machel McGuire

Darice Machel McGuire lived on the beautiful Island of Maui from 2012 until the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023, destroyed her art studio. She and her husband have relocated to Grass Valley, California. They purchased a commercial building to reestablish their art studios. McGuire's Hawaii and California landscape oil and acrylic paintings are gracing the homes and offices of collectors nationally and internationally. McGuire's choice of subject matter comes from her love of nature and all that surrounds her on a daily basis. She paints in large and small formats.
