Lahaina Harbor is such a serene place. There is something very calming about it, even when it's bustling with people waiting to go on one of the tour boats. It's one of my favorite places in Lahaina. I love walking along the dock and or the jetty next to it. It's a place where I can let my imagination go. I can see myself on one of the sailboats, enjoying a day on the ocean, feeling the genital motion of the waves. Or enjoying one of the great whale watching tour boats.
This historic sea port is a tourist destination. Many book tours in hopes of seeing whales or catching a beautiful sunset on a dinner cruise, or charter a fishing boat in hopes of catching a big fish. We even have a ferry that takes people back and forth to the island of Lana'i.
This oil painting was in progress for a couple of years. I started it with high hopes. But the sky I originally put in kept fighting me. So I put the painting away and forgot about it. When I came crossed it again I pulled it out...
Darice Machel McGuire lived on the beautiful Island of Maui from 2012 until the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023, destroyed her art studio. She and her husband have relocated to Grass Valley, California. They purchased a commercial building to reestablish their art studios. McGuire's Hawaii and California landscape oil and acrylic paintings are gracing the homes and offices of collectors nationally and internationally. McGuire's choice of subject matter comes from her love of nature and all that surrounds her on a daily basis. She paints in large and small formats.
