Lahaina Harbor is such a serene place. There is something very calming about it, even when it's bustling with people waiting to go on one of the tour boats. It's one of my favorite places in Lahaina. I love walking along the dock and or the jetty next to it. It's a place where I can let my imagination go. I can see myself on one of the sailboats, enjoying a day on the ocean, feeling the genital motion of the waves. Or enjoying one of the great whale watching tour boats.
This historic sea port is a tourist destination. Many book tours in hopes of seeing whales or catching a beautiful sunset on a dinner cruise, or charter a fishing boat in hopes of catching a big fish. We even have a ferry that takes people back and forth to the island of Lana'i.
This oil painting was in progress for a couple of years. I started it with high hopes. But the sky I originally put in kept fighting me. So I put the painting away and forgot about it. When I came crossed it again I pulled it out, placed it on my easel and studied it for a month before making the commitment to finish it. The end result I'm very happy with.
NOTE; This painting, along with my entire inventory and art studio, was destroyed in the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023.
