The Jacaranda trees on Maui are mostly in Kula, upcountry. They were planted in the late 1950s by the Territorial Highway Division. The blooming usually starts in the lower elevations around Pukalani and Makawao in April with the upper elevation trees in Kula blooming in May. Purple flowers cover the entire tree and the ground below them. As the flowers drop they create pools of purple beneath the trees.
This acrylic painting shows a row of Jacarandas in full bloom. The bright purple flowers are nicely contrasted by the dry yellow grass. The red dirt road leads to a single tree before it disappears around the hill. The blue slope of Haleakala is seen in the far distance.
NOTE; This painting, along with my entire inventory and art studio, was destroyed in the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023.
