Hookipa is on the north shore of Maui. It's where the surfers go due to the big waves. You drive pass it on the Road to Hana. It's just one of many beautiful sights to see. This beautiful beach was a pleasure to paint. The cloudy sky added a nice touch of drama to the over all scene. But I must admit, I painted the sky 4 times before I was happy with this painting. In fact, now it's the sky that I like most in this painting. You would think small paintings like this one would be easy to paint, but not always. Getting the composition just right for the small size canvas is a challenge. I actually put it a side for two months. Forgetting about it until I rediscovered it hiding behind another painting.
This small painting is 6 x 12 inches on a 1 inch wrap around canvas.
