Artist's Description

Honu Amakua is a guardian spirit animal.Traditional Hawaiian way of life is characterized by its symbiosis with spiritual guidance that comes from every animated and inanimate entity – be it an animal, a rock, a tree, the sea, the moon, etc. Animal spirit guides are amongst the messengers providing guidance on the path and in everyday life. Honu is the symbol of wisdom and good luck. For Hawaiians the Honu represents the navigator, and the eternal link between man, the land and the sea. One Hawaiian legend tells of a large Honu, Kailua, who would transform into a human and served as protector of the Keiki (children) playing along the shore of Punalu’u Beach.

This painting is done on a 15 inch round wood panel. The background I did with the acrylic pour technique. I made two print versions for your consideration, this one with the black background and one with a white background.

Darice Machel McGuire

Darice Machel McGuire lived on the beautiful Island of Maui from 2012 until the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023, destroyed her art studio. She and her husband have relocated to Grass Valley, California. They purchased a commercial building to reestablish their art studios. McGuire's Hawaii and California landscape oil and acrylic paintings are gracing the homes and offices of collectors nationally and internationally. McGuire's choice of subject matter comes from her love of nature and all that surrounds her on a daily basis. She paints in large and small formats. Three of the five galleries that represented her work were destroyed by the Lahaina fire. The two remaining galleries are Karen Lei's Gallery in Kahakuloa and Karen Lei's...
