Artist's Description

He'e is how you say octopus in Hawaiian. The he’e is associated with the ancient god, Kanaloa, a spiritual leader of the underworld. He is a navigator and mysterious healer. Hawaiian mythology placed Kanaloa with the god Kane. Together, their mythological roles are intertwined with good or evil. Ancient chants and Hula Kahiko represent the mythological and spiritual connections of the two gods, Na aumakua and mana.

I used the acrylic pour technique for the background of this painting. I think it works really well.

About Darice Machel McGuire

Darice Machel McGuire

Darice Machel McGuire lived on the beautiful Island of Maui from 2012 until the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023, destroyed her art studio.
