Lahaina Harbor was destroyed in the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023. My heart is broken for the loss.
My favorite time of day is just before sunset. The light is warm and soft and everything seems to glow. This painting has that warm glow. Sometimes I wish the light of day could be this warm all day long. My painting shows the resting fishing boats tied up for the night. The little blue fishing huts are all cleaned up and all the hard working seaman have gone home for the night and you'll see a few people hanging out to enjoy the surroundings. Look closely, there are seven people throughout the painting. can you find them all?
I started this painting with a red/orange under-painting to help keep the color temperature balanced throughout the painting. You will notice how the red is carried all the way through starting with the sky.

About Darice Machel McGuire
Darice Machel McGuire lived on the beautiful Island of Maui from 2012 until the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023, destroyed her art studio. She and her husband have relocated to Grass Valley, California. They purchased a commercial building to reestablish their art studios. McGuire's Hawaii and California landscape oil and acrylic paintings are gracing the homes and offices of collectors nationally and internationally. McGuire's choice of subject matter comes from her love of nature and all that surrounds her on a daily basis. She paints in large and small formats.
