"Golden Tropical Sunset" won honorable mention in the Jerry's Artarama "Matisse Summer Painting Contest". on 10/19/2010
The technique I used in this painting was done by layering tissue paper onto the canvas with a base color of red acrylic acting as my glue. This creates a wonderful texture. After this layer dries I start to build colors on top of the base using green-gold, unbleached titanium white, yellow ocher, burnt siena and metallic gold and copper. I paint the subject on top of this abstract background. By keeping the subject simple and using the same colors as the background the paintings take on a spiritual effect. About Darice Machel McGuire
Darice Machel McGuire lived on the beautiful Island of Maui from 2012 until the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023, destroyed her art studio. She and her husband have relocated to Grass Valley, California. They purchased a commercial building to reestablish their art studios. McGuire's Hawaii and California landscape oil and acrylic paintings are gracing the homes and offices of collectors nationally and internationally. McGuire's choice of subject matter comes from her love of nature and all that surrounds her on a daily basis. She paints in large and small formats.
