This tropical landscape of the West Maui Mountains and the Lahaina Harbor was inspired by a photo I took while on a whale watching trip. The day was pretty gray and cloudy and the ocean was a bit rough which made for a great moody painting. There was quite a few fishing boats and sail boats at rest in the harbor, and the little fishing huts had very little activity going on around them. Giving the harbor the illusion of being in a peaceful rest. The fields between Lahaina harbor and the mountains are in their winter time state of brown and yellows. The golden light of the sun is trying to break through the clouds and shine down on the mountain.
NOTE; This painting, along with my entire inventory and art studio, was destroyed in the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023.

Three of the five galleries that represented her work were destroyed by the Lahaina fire. The two remaining galleries are Karen Lei's Gallery in Kahakuloa and Karen Lei's...
