The simplicity of this painting brings a sense of peace and balance, perfect for adding a touch of feng shui to your home. Feng shui literally means "wind and water." Its roots are 5,000 years old. Feng shui seeks to promote prosperity, good health, and general well being by examining how energy, qi, pronounced "chee," flows through a particular room, house, building, or garden.
The little bonsai tree is happy in it's copper bowl. Bonsai is a Japanese art form using trees grown in containers.
The technique I used in this painting was done by layering tissue paper onto the canvas with a base color of red acrylic acting as my glue. This creates a wonderful texture. After this layer dries I start to build colors on top of the base using green-gold, unbleached titanium white, yellow ocher, burnt siena and metallic gold and copper. Darice Machel McGuire lived on the beautiful Island of Maui from 2012 until the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023, destroyed her art studio. She and her husband have relocated to Grass Valley, California. They purchased a commercial building to reestablish their art studios. McGuire's Hawaii and California landscape oil and acrylic paintings are gracing the homes and offices of collectors nationally and internationally. McGuire's choice of subject matter comes from her love of nature and all that surrounds her on a daily basis. She paints in large and small formats.
