Have you ever wanted to spend the day on your favorite beach with absolutely no one else on it? Can you imagine how peaceful that would be? Nothing but the sound of the water caressing the shore and the song of the birds.
The big tree at Kapalua Bay offers lots of shade for beach goers on most days. However, during the covid-19 shutdown there were no beach goers. The beaches and parks were all empty. This was a real unique treat for me. I had my favorite beaches all to myself. I wasn't allowed to sunbath, but there was no law against walking along them. I took advantage of their emptiness and took a lot of reference photos.
During my walks I got such a peaceful, calm feeling. These lovely beaches were getting a much needed rest. The coral reefs and ocean habitat was also enjoying a moment of peace.
I don't know if our island Maui will ever go back to the 30,000 a day visitors. To be honest with you, I hope it never does. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind sharing...

Darice Machel McGuire lived on the beautiful Island of Maui from 2012 until the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023, destroyed her art studio. She and her husband have relocated to Grass Valley, California. They purchased a commercial building to reestablish their art studios. McGuire's Hawaii and California landscape oil and acrylic paintings are gracing the homes and offices of collectors nationally and internationally. McGuire's choice of subject matter comes from her love of nature and all that surrounds her on a daily basis. She paints in large and small formats.
