ABC Stores are all over Hawaii. In some areas there is one on every block. These stores are souvenir shops that offer everything from Aloha shirts, flip flops, post cards, candy, snacks and much much more.
This painting represents my favorite ABC Store. This store has been in this building for 30 years and has recently closed. The manager and I have become good friends. She approached me a few months before it closed and asked if I would do a painting of it with her crew featured in it. She loved working with her crew and was sad they were all going to other ABC stores and would no longer work together. I agreed to take on the commission.
She sent me images of her crew, just head shots. I came up with a way to feature them into the painting. Since I knew all of her crew and knew what their personalities were like, I was able to place them in a fun, playful manner as was her request.

About Darice Machel McGuire
Darice Machel McGuire lived on the beautiful Island of Maui from 2012 until the Lahaina fire on August 8th, 2023, destroyed her art studio. She and her husband have relocated to Grass Valley, California. They purchased a commercial building to reestablish their art studios. McGuire's Hawaii and California landscape oil and acrylic paintings are gracing the homes and offices of collectors nationally and internationally. McGuire's choice of subject matter comes from her love of nature and all that surrounds her on a daily basis. She paints in large and small formats.
