Artist's Description
Hawaii is my favorite place in the world. I love the smell, colors, warmth and aloha spirit. This old boat was photographed by my mother many many years ago. It just begged for me to put it into a painting. What I loved about this fishing boat was it's old weathered look.
I used an underpainting of cadmium red light to give the painting color balance. The palm trees added the feel of a tropical island. The name of the boat, Hilo Kale is named for one of my favorite towns and my favorite man, Charlie. Kale is Charlie in Hawaiian.
The original size is 18x24 and hangs in a private collection in Maui.
